future buys

OK, I am going to put down things I feel like buying. Not really to buy in future, but will be interesting to see if I feel like buying this after a while.

When shit go down, how guilty are the politicians?

How much can we blame politicians? How responsible is Manmohan Singh for Mumbai events? They are an easy target for the people. Liberal media in India have started the blame game and public inciting. One thing that stands unfavorably for the UPA is the fact that they did not provide any alternative for POTA. But that apart, how soft are they to terror? Didn't they give freedom for ATS? In fact, the political pressure has been from the opposition. How reaslistic are the public in this case? There is a lot of understandable anger, but the logistics in meeting their demands IMO are beyond their comprehension.

What do we as a nation want now? Go to war with Pakistan? Protect the borders. Identify illegal immigrants? Identify homegrown terrorists? All steps easier said than done. People talk of political will. What do we do with political will? All said and done, the past two decades have been the most liberal for India. Do we want the political will to destroy that? Giving a blanket accusation would be a slap to politicians and beurocrats who worked hard for the economic reforms. As shown with the economic reforms, political will is always there, the missing factor is the knowledge in the case of security.

For example, modern weaponary for the police force. People blame politicians for the outdated weaponary. Aren't the police themselves at a better position to know what weapon is best for them? I would not go into much on training etc... as that is a topic I have little knowledge on. Police constables were holding 303's against the automatics the terrorists were using.

Another politician who has had a major fall out is the Kerala CM. Peer pressure is something that is very difficult to overcome. IMO, the CM initially had the right idea in staying away from the slain Major's house. This was in tune with the family's requests. But, the media and public are really cruel entities that push politicians into stuff they do not want to do.

Now, a piece of opinion from me on the issue. I think the issue is decentralization of power. The regional parties have too much power. Regional politics have played a heavy role in national politics. Let MMS and Advani face off against each other for the top post. And whoever wins gets power for 5 years no matter what.

The second test match between India and Australia is over now and its just sad. Not just because India lost, but some of the Australian players I had respect for clearly cheated in the match.

First was Symmonds, who absolutely crashed the ball into Dhoni's gloves and stood ground. I know this happened because the idiot and useless Yuvraj stood ground during the previous test match. But then these are the sort of things that separates these two and now Symmo has fallen to Yuvi league. Sad sad sad...

Second was Gilchrist appealing for Dravid's caught behind, when he could clearly see there was nothing there.

This is what he had to say: "Talking about his appeal against Dravid, Gilchrist said: "There are times when you don't know. So, you ask the question. Every player has right to ask the umpire. I will say I don't appeal if I don't think they are out. If I am not sure, I will ask the umpire and I'll accept his decision."
Well, if you look at the videos, thats not what happened. Celebrating a wicket, without umpire giving out is definitely not asking him...

Third was Clarke, with Ganguly's catch, but then I never had much respect for him.

Then Ponting appealing for Dhoni's catch, when he had absolutely hit the ground with ball. Ponting also takes blame for the racial issue, as he has clearly overstepped here.

What this has ensured is that the Aussies are not going to find much love when they visit India next time.

Oil Consumption

From cnn: here
And the raw numbers aren't small either. The Saudis used more than 2 million barrels of oil per day in 2006, and the Iranians used 1.7 million. India, a faster-growing economy with far more people, used 2.5 million. (By comparison, the United States used about 24 million barrels a day, nearly 10 times as much as India, despite having a population barely one-fourth as large and an economy just three times bigger.)
